Colchester – March 2025 – news
Essex Police swiftly responded to reports of a missing vulnerable child, leading to a thorough investigation and a severe court sentence for the perpetrator.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) gathered crucial evidence that ensured a dangerous predator was brought before the courts, where he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Swift Police Action
In October 2024, a family in Colchester became concerned that their young daughter was meeting a stranger and could be in danger. They tracked her location to the A120 road and immediately contacted the police.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene and found Farah Abdulkadir Mohamed, a 38-year-old man, who claimed he was “helping” the girl.
A rapid check revealed that Mohamed was violating bail conditions related to previous child sex offences. Further investigation of his mobile phone uncovered disturbing messages exchanged with the victim on social media, leading to his immediate arrest.
How He Targeted the Victim
The young girl later informed officers that Farah Abdulkadir Mohamed had initially contacted her while she was playing the online game Roblox, before convincing her to continue chatting on Discord.
She reported that he had made inappropriate sexual comments, encouraged her to meet him in person, and made her feel unsafe. When officers searched his belongings, they discovered items that suggested his intent was premeditated.
Court Verdict
On October 25, 2024, Farah Abdulkadir Mohamed appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
During his sentencing on February 21, 2025, at Chelmsford Crown Court, he received:
- 7 years in prison.
- 3 additional years under strict supervision after release.
- Lifetime registration on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
- A 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting him from contacting children.

Detective Sergeant Jon Loudon, who led the investigation, stated:
